Stop "AI Washing": Transformation vs. Illusion

Simply slapping "AI" onto your existing work doesn't mean you've transformed it!

One of the reasons the AI bubble will burst (and yes, it will happen) is poor decision-making driven by the fear of missing out (FOMO). Unfortunately, we are seeing these exact mistakes being made by everyone—from massive consulting firms to startups building AI products from scratch.

Let me give you a few examples:

  • Wrong: Using AI merely to interpret or summarize the conclusion of a report you've already prepared.

  • Right: Using ML algorithms to make sense of the raw data, positioning AI to detect anomalies, and using those AI outputs to trigger automated workflows. This means you are on the right track.

  • Wrong: Panic-buying AI licenses out of FOMO, dumping them into your company, and simply expecting your employees to magically produce meaningful outputs.

  • Right: Strategically planning how AI tools will contribute to business outcomes, and supporting your employees by equipping them with the right skills and frameworks to use AI effectively.

  • Wrong: Positioning a product based on its features rather than the customer's actual needs. Building an AI tool and expecting a company to reinvent its internal processes just to fit your product is a massive mistake.

  • Right: Finding the exact right use-case for your AI product within the customer's operations, and focusing on tangible outputs that clearly demonstrate the "before" and "after" metrics.

If you pay attention, the wrong moves are glaringly obvious. The right path, however, is a long journey—and we are still at the very beginning of it.
